Arcana

Born in 1982, Arcana was interested in music from the early start. At the age of 9, she started expressing herself by means of a classical guitar. When growing older however, she got more and more drawn to electronic music. Arcana started going out to clubs and parties but quite quickly discovered she wanted to do more with this music than just party to it. So she moved away from the dance floor and headed for that dj booth. She took on a vacation job to help her afford her equipment and started buying records. House was her passion from the start, albeit the more harder and techy kind.
After a while, Arcana met Pollux in the Antwerp nightlive and later on also Tom 'Sugar' Cain. With these two guys she played at some of the raunchiest parties in some of the mouldiest basements all over Antwerp. One Sunday at La Rocca she came in contact with Gee, who gave her the opportunity to play at Rocca's Backstage and at the infamous lounge-bar "The Barroom".
Her experience grew steadily as she played at parties in Antwerp and later on in Ghent, thanks to Tom 'Sugar' Cain who, in the meantime got around to organising the Ghent-based Quartier Pigalle parties.
In July 2002 Arcana received the rather unusual request to appear on an episode of "Witte Raven" (Faking It) where a classical pianist got turned into a dj and then thrown into a dj-contest to test her skills. Some friends convinced Arcana to go for it, and so she did. She won the dj contest, which was judged amongst others, by living legend Derrick May. This resulted in playing on the closing night of Ghent's most famous club: Culture Club (thx Dirk!). Things escalated a bit, giving her more and more bookings, mostly in Ghent.
Early 2004, Tom 'Sugar' Cain invited her at Audition in Tijuana, where he himself played as a resident. She had a great time and was invited for a couple more gigs.
A few months later she met Vice at StuBru's Switch- Discover The Dj-Weekend. They discovered they shared a rare passion: soulful house. This resulted in a few back-to-back-sets spiced up with live flute, which really seemed to please the crowd. Arcana teamed up with Vice and Steven and threw her first party with these two party-animals: House Nation - It's a soul thing.
When Tijuana started their new season, Michael asked Arcana to take on a Saturday residency at the club, which she gladly accepted. Since the TJ-crowd loved their versus-set earlier that year, Arcana asked Vice to join her for this residency. Unfortunately at the end 2004, Tijuana decided to leave the soulful house-path and turned more towards commercial tunes. With pain in her heart, Arcana decided it was time to say good-by to Ghent's cosiest club and look for other places which still believed in the power of warm & soulful tunes.
Thanks to Pollux, she started throwing 6am.be-parties on the one Saturday a month La Rocca still succeeded in capturing her heart: Good Times. At the time she's a resident at these 6am.parties so be sure to check them out!
